“The victory stamped the big gray colt as a 3-Year-Old to reckon with in the May 1st Kentucky Derby.” - The Wall Street Journal
“Thanks for putting this Monster in my lap ... He was brilliant, striking to look at and by Tapit. I think he is a great sire prospect.”
- Hall of Fame Trainer Bob Baffert
Flashback is an impeccably-bred, striking son of 3-time Leading Sire Tapit. Tapit has established himself as one of the most successful sires of the past quarter century. Flashback is a full brother to Multiple Grade 1 Winner Zazu who sold for $2.1 million. He has the looks, the pedigree, the performance and the owners to be any kind of sire.
An early favorite for the Kentucky Derby, he was the model of consistency as a racehorse. Flashback was never off the board in seven career starts. His trainer Bob Baffert described him as, “... brilliant. He’ll make a great sire.”
Flashback rose to the top of the 3-year-old class after a scintillating 6 1/4 length victory in his stakes debut around two turns in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis at Santa Anita. Sent off the favorite in the $750,000 Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, Flashback was narrowly defeated by Goldencents while sustaining an injury. Flashback’s sire Tapit is the sire of Grade 2 winner Mohaymen, a $2.2 million yearling co-sales topper, who is a half brother to Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day.
272 mares bred in his first two crops.
